"It is a special place that is intimately connected to the Johnston family, whose political and commercial contributions were felt throughout New Zealand.

The trust commended the owners for their conservation efforts.
Peter Harris said the couple moved from Auckland to tackle the project in 2000 as a "retirement folly".
"We just heard this morning about the reclassification so yes, absolutely, we think it's great news."
So what's the best thing about living in the homestead? "Everything. No traffic, lots of great visitors and the sense of accomplishment. It's better than a single malt [whisky]."
