Fire fighters have cut free a middle age man in Havelock North after a cherry picker came off the tow bar of a Hastings District Council ute and smashed through the windscreen of his van travelling in the opposite direction.

The man was cut from the van on the bridge near the Havelock
Road and Karanema Drive roundabout at about 1.20pm on Wednesday.  Firefighters had to cut the man out of the van and he was taken to hospital by ambulance.  The condition of the man was not immediately available but was not thought to be life threatening.

Road blocks were in place at the Havelock Rd and Saint Georges Rd roundabout  and Havelock Rd and Karanema Drive roundabouts for over an hour.

Police , two fire appliances and an ambulance attended the accident.
