Construction of a debris-stopping fence along the base of Bluff Hill near the Port of Napier is among 17 road and roadside projects currently being carried out in Hawke's Bay by the New Zealand Transport Agency.
Fencing had previously been erected along the base near the northern Marine Parade port entrance
and the latest work is along a 70m stretch near the container terminal entrance off Breakwater Rd.
Hillside slips had occurred during the wet winter sending debris on to the Ahuriri-bound lane. Contractors have closed the road shoulder and speed restrictions have been put in place.
Works in progress
SH2 Napier to Wairoa: Various sites, re-sealing and surface repairs, speed restrictions and some slight delays; Tangoio, tree removal, speed restrictions and reduced width; SH2/5 intersection to Whirinaki, fibre optic installation, shoulder closed.
