Happy tears were shed on Sunday morning at Clive Four Square when a woman found out she was $333,333 richer.

The woman, who is believed to be from the Waikato area was on holiday in the region and popped into the store at about 10.30 that morning.

Clive Four Square owner and operator Bonar Vossen-Chong said it was "nice to see people winning through the store - whether big or small".

Excitement erupted in the store when the display lit up with "major prize".

He believed the winner was deserving of the prize.

"It was somebody who I thought yeah I'm glad she won it, just with the situation she was in, she seems like she really needed it."

"She was very happy. She couldn't believe she had one."

It is not the first time the store has had a winning Lotto ticket, having had someone win 2 million a few years ago.

"We've got a pretty regular group who keep coming back and one of the lady's told me this morning that this is a lucky shop."

They have got a winners board set up for those who get an extra bit of cash, from as little as $100.

"I think it is really great that we have got people winning in Hawke's Bay. It is a fantastic place to holiday and it is a fantastic place to live."

The winning first division Lotto tickets were sold at Cape View Four Square in Haumoana, Countdown Regent in Whangarei and to an online player in Auckland.

Cape View Four Square duty manager Philip Percy said it was quite exciting to sell a winning ticket.

He added that Lotto had informed them that the winner had claimed their prize locally and said it was unfortunate it wasn't claimed at their shop, but was still very happy for the woman.
