The family of a 39-year-old Nuhaka mother burnt in a gas explosion on Saturday say they are "taking it one day at a time" as she slowly recovers.
Tia Ropitini is in a serious but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland with burns to 70 per cent of her body.
She was putting a cake in her mother's oven at 6.35am when the flat was destroyed by a large explosion. She remained conscious and was attended to by relatives before being airlifted to hospital.
