The Tremains Art Deco Festival had a bubbly sort of a time at noon yesterday as a very special new wine from the vines of the Sileni Estates in Hastings was uncorked - and enjoyed.
Back in September 2015 Sileni Estates and the Art Deco Trust forged a three-year partnership after the trust's then general manager Sally Jackson said a link with a nationally and internationally recognised brand like Sileni would help spread the Art Deco word even wider.
Sileni Estates chief executive and president Sir Graeme Avery was enthusiastic about linking up, and the deal was done.
He said the festival was so well recognised and had expanded so much in recent years, and was such a boon to the regional economy, that a partnership with the trust could help increase that even more - to the whole region's benefit.
As they did last year, Sileni Estates has got behind a string of Art Deco events, and yesterday's was slightly special as it unveiled the latest addition to the winery's line-up - Art Deco Sparkling.
Sileni CEO Nigel Avery said the addition of the limited edition bubbly was a fitting and timely one, given the bond now forged.
"Art Deco design ushered in a modern era of experimentation, sharp angles, geometric precision, ornate embellishments and glamour," he said.
"It left striking landmarks around the world, none more so than right here in New Zealand."
He said the limited edition sparkling newcomer had been created to celebrate the city of Napier as well as the partnership which had been forged between the winery and the trust.
Inspired by Napier's Art Deco architectural designs, the unique bottles were designed by award-winning London design company BD Creative.
The trust's general manager Shane Gorst, who took on the role last November and was enjoying steering the great Art Deco Trust ship and its hard-working and devoted crew, was delighted with the bubbly addition to the festival.
"Deco Sparkling is redolent of the Great Gatsby glamour - characterised by bold geometries and dramatic flourishes," he said.
"It perfectly captures the opulence of the era."
At yesterday's Art Deco Wine Launch guests sampled the new sparkling and gave it the thumbs-up.
It will feature at several equally sparkling events lined up over the next three days and will also be available from wine retailers.
