Heavy fog in Auckland yesterday caused five flights through Hawke's Bay to be cancelled.
About 200 passengers were affected.
For Air New Zealand staff at Hawke's Bay Airport, the afternoon was effectively a case of "catch-up", a spokesperson said.
"We did a lot of re-booking for tomorrow and there weresome passengers who had international connections to make who had to change their plans," the spokesperson said yesterday.
The fog left long queues at Auckland Airport, an airline spokesperson saying there were "significant disruptions" throughout the network. Only flights to and from Wellington and Christchurch, using aircraft capable of flying in fog conditions, were able to operate.
That did not impress airport upgrade campaigner Simon Nixon, who had been scheduled to pick up a passenger from an Auckland flight at 6.45am yesterday. The passenger was unable to get another booking until 1.30pm.
Mr Nixon said he understood the Labour Caucus had been scheduled to meet in Napier today but because of the disruption the meeting had been cancelled.
He said the underlying issue was that the aircraft which flew through Hawke's Bay did not have the landing systems jets had, and that was costing the region money in accommodation and other spending.
