This tenacity has yielded one lead, with someone who saw the flyer in a supermarket phoning the family about a sighting.
"He rang yesterday and said he had seen a kid riding around on it on a particular street," said Jacob's mum Mary.
"So my husband and son drove around the area of that street and asked a few questions but there has been no more information than that."
She said there was a possible name that was handed over and they had passed this information on to police.
"But nobody seems to know where he lives," she said.
"They had that one sighting and it could well have been the kid but nothing else. It will be a miracle to find it, I guess."
The family returned to Titahi Bay in Porirua yesterday as Mrs Hulme-Moir and her husband Angus had to work.
"I hope somebody picks the newspaper up today and there will be another sighting," she said.
However, she was wary that it could go the other way and the person who was allegedly seen riding the bike would see it in the newspaper and get rid of it.
"Hopefully, it will go the other way and someone will ring and say I saw that," she said.
Police were contacted to see how the the investigation was progressing, but had no further information.
If anyone has seen the bike or has any information about the theft, contact Hastings Police.
