The Royal New Zealand Ballet's A Midsummer Night's Dream is a magical performance not to be missed.
Prepare to be transported into an enchanted world of dance and humour, with spectacular lighting and costumes you won't be able to take your eyes off.
Choreographer Liam Scarlett said he hoped Shakespeare would have loved his version of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
"I hope he would giggle and get the underlying undercurrent, which is what Shakespeare did," Scarlett said.
"There is dark humour in this ballet but I have done it in a way that it is suitable for all ages.
"For a child, it is simply magical and funny, whereas adults will enjoy the innuendoes and humour."
He said humour had more expectation when delivered in a ballet.
"It has to look fresh and spontaneous every time but at the same time the delivery of the punchline has to be perfect."
Choosing the characters for the performances was relatively easy, he said.
"I watch a class and certain people catch my eye.
"It's not about teaching them to dance, they already know that, and these New Zealand ballet dancers are professional and fantastic dancers.
"I'm a big believer in following my instinct.
