Ahuriri continues to be targeted for apartments and townhouses, with plans under way for two further multi-million dollar developments in Napier's seaside suburb.
Wellington-based Globe Holdings is to start work in October on a three-stage $60 million development bounded by Pandora Road and Humber Street.
And Ryman Healthcare Ltd is to add further to its Princess Alexandra Retirement Village in Battery Road with 17 two-bedroom apartments housed in a two-storey building.
The new building will be accessed through the existing complex, which already encompasses 25 townhouses and 50 serviced apartments. Some five or six of the townhouses are currently under construction.
Ryman Health also intends demolishing cottages on an adjoining site occupied by the former Omahanui Salvation Army Retirement Complex. It will rebuild with nine units for existing tenants on the site, accessed from Domett Street.
The first stage in Globe Holdings' Ahuriri Quadrant will see 37 townhouses constructed in Pandora.
The townhouses will be centred around a village green and include their own small gardens or decks. Called The Terraces, they will be designed by Wellington-based architects Craig Moller at a cost of more than $17 million.
A second stage, The Waterfront, will have apartments with balconies and views over the Ahuriri inner harbour.
A third stage, The Lodge and Retail, is also proposed. It will include serviced apartments centred around a courtyard with a wine centre, cellar and a cafe-restaurant.
Globe Holdings has work started on a 105-apartment complex in West Quay.
