Tairawhiti is enjoying some of the best weather in the country today but it will deteriorate over the next couple of days.
Met Service meteorologist April Clark said the cloud was like a blanket in the sky keeping our overnight temperatures twice as high as the usual June average.
Tonight's
overnight low is forecast to be 12 degrees C, with the average in June usually only six degrees C.
Ms Clark said the northerly winds were providing a warm moist flow over this region, while the rest of the country experienced rain and cold temperatures.
But rain would develop here this afternoon from a front moving east across the country.
