Wanted: Volunteers for Super Saturday

Super Saturday — the day dedicated to boosting the country's vaccination numbers — is only two days away and volunteers are needed in Tairawhiti.

Teams are planning a wide range of entertainment at vaccination clinics, including DJs, karaoke, competitions, major prizes and giveaways.

There will also be coffee carts and free food ranging from barbecues to hangi.

But the region's hard-working health providers need assistance in a variety of roles on Saturday such as —

■ “Chefs” for barbecues.

■ Teams to work at the three barbecue sites.

■ Crews of five to set up and pack down at each clinic site.

■ Two “runners” at each site to assist with “bits and pieces”.

“If volunteering isn't an option for you, one of the best things you can do is to talk to your friends, whanau, colleagues and communities about vaccination,” spokeswoman Di Akurangi said.

“Through your organisation's networks, find unvaccinated whanau and bring them into one of the ‘super clinics'.”

Health providers are contacting unvaccinated populations through primary health organisations and clinics and liaising with them about local vaccinating practices and supporting the Super Saturday event.

Radio, print press, online adverts, digital billboards and social media platforms are promoting the vaxathon, which will be screened live through ThreeNow, Maori Television and the Hahana Facebook page.

Screening times may differ on the platforms but the vaxathon is scheduled to place from midday to 8pm.

Just like the famous telethons of the past, celebrities will feature, crossing live to Covid-19 vaccination sites in eight different venues to capture the atmosphere and experiences of those receiving their first or second vaccine.
