Six areas now 90 percent double-vaxxed

Whakaki and Gisborne Central are the latest Tairāwhiti areas to have reached the 90 percent target for double-vaccinated.

Ministry of Health figures from January 5, 2022 show Gisborne Central at 91.5 percent residents fully vaccinated while Whakaki is at 90.5 percent.

The two areas are the latest addition to the growing list of suburbs in Tairāwhiti reaching the vaccination target, including Wainui-Okitu (91.0), Whataupoko East (94.3), Whataupoko West (93.3), and Hexton (93.3).

Kaiti North (88.9) and Te Hapara North (89.8) are the next closest regions to the milestone.

Bringing up the rear is Waipaoa with 78.7 percent of its residents having had their second doses.

Tairāwhiti wide vaccination figures were 91 percent for first dose and 86 percent second dose (as of midnight January 4, 2022).

Only 1540 doses are needed for the region to reach the 90 percent fully-vaccinated milestone.

The whole of New Zealand has already crossed the milestone and sits at 95 percent of the total eligible population having had at least their first dose and 92 percent double-dosed.

For Māori in Tairāwhiti, 88 percent for eligible population have received their first dose and 80 percent are fully vaccinated.

Just over 490 doses are needed for Māori to reach the 90 percent partially-vaccinated number.
