Re: Three sports hubs.
I attended the consultation session held on Tuesday, September 15th. The authors of the Community Facilities Strategy document made some excellent points that I think were missed in this article.
The timelines on this consultation document are critical. If Tairawhiti wants to see quality indoor and
outdoor sports facilities similar to what other communities around New Zealand are currently enjoying, there needs to be good discussion and consensus building.
When this proposal is presented to central government, we as a community must all be on the same page. Central government will be more inclined to allocate funds if the community is agreed in where it wants to house these facilities.
The intent is to present this proposal after the election. Unfortunately the sense of urgency around the timing has not been communicated well, nor the need for us to debate the proposed locations and settle on the one that will best achieve the objectives of improving participation in recreational opportunities here in Tairawhiti.
