Opinion
As one who enjoyed living and working in New Zealand in the 2000s, I am writing both to express the condolences of our family for the Christchurch tragedy as well as our admiration for the decisive action taken by the Prime Minister and Government to bring real control to household
armaments.
I think Jacinda Ardern’s actions and obvious compassion for those killed are a great example to other countries who have been afflicted by terrorism. In this way she has very quickly become a stateswoman the world is listening to, and I would venture needs to hear.
She is unafraid to tackle difficult, complex issues and is able to bring her country along with her in trying to solve them.
This is enlightened government of the highest type, which seems so badly lacking in so many places.
While this is indeed a sad time for New Zealand, the resolve of the country to see such acts are never replicated is highly commendable. It shows good government works and can solve issues.
