SURFING

Mount Maunganui’s Bay Boardriders bested 13 clubs from around the country to win the overall team title at the Sticky Johnson Primary School Surfing Championships at Gisborne’s Midway Beach over the weekend.

The club was led by Tyler Stenzel, who won the Year 6 and below boys division.

There were also podium finishes by his Bay Boardriders clubmates Tao Mouldey (second in Y7 and Y8 boys), Indica Corcoran (third in Y6 and below boys) and Cooper Roberts (fourth in Y7/Y8 boys).

Whangarei’s Cooper Ashill won the Year 7/8 boys title, Piha’s Leia Millar the Y7/Y8 girls division and Orewa’s Alani Morse the Y6 and below girls section.
