A109 Light Utility Helicopter flight with mayor Gisborne City from the air in November 2023.
Opinion
If Ross Meurant becomes Mayor I fail to see how he will open the railway line to Wairoa, as he stated he has committed to do.
Some time ago I wrote to the Prime Minister regarding her promise to reopen the railway line. She advised that my enquiry was passed
to Shane Jones. His answer was that the Government hadn’t considered proceeding with repairs as yet.
A further letter to Winston Peters, who also promised to reopen the line, brought a reply that reinstatement of the Gisborne to Wairoa railway would be considered as part of the Government’s 10-year national rail programme.
If this is the case, Mr Meurant may have to be Mayor for three or four terms before he gets any action from the Government.
