AN amendment to Gisborne District Council’s dog control bylaw that would extend the area in which dogs must be on a leash has been postponed.
A recommendation was before the council this week to add a definition of the foredune area in the bylaw to include the area between the
new Oneroa Walkway and the sea.
The council had received 124 likes on its Facebook page and 46 comments in favour.
Gisborne dog owner Ed Simperingham has opposed the change. He says the proposed amendment would change the rights of dog owners to use beaches at Kaiti, Waikanae and Midway.
Chief executive Judy Campbell said more submissions had been received and had to be taken into account even though most were in favour.
