Tauranga Art Gallery will be closed until March 28, 2017 as the gallery's exhibition team is working with seven renowned international street artists on the installation of Paradox Inside.
The Paradox Tauranga Street Art Festival is expected to be a one-of-a-kind event that has the potential to get the world
talking about Tauranga. The festival is a partnership between Tauranga City Council, Tauranga Art Gallery, and Oi YOU!
Tauranga Art Gallery director Karl Chitham said the entire gallery would be dedicated to street art for the full festival period, which runs until June 15, 2017.
"The festival features the Oi YOU! Collection including the most extensive assembly of the works in the Southern Hemisphere of the acclaimed street artist Banksy," he said.
With 22 works on show from Banksy, arguably the most prominent street artist in the world, and works by other well-known artists in the gallery and on walls around the city, Tauranga has an opportunity to take its place on the street art world map.
Artists Askew One, Lucy McLauchlan, Sofles, Charles & Janine Williams, Jacob Yikes and Fintan Magee will be displaying their work at the gallery and in the city, plus the public will be treated to an amazing virtual reality experience showing work by Melbourne based street artist Rone.
If anyone would like to be a part of the exhibition, the gallery is looking for volunteers to assist.
