He was then admitted to Tauranga Hospital where he underwent tests and scans before being diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma - a rare and cancerous tumour that grows in bones or the soft tissue near bones.
Within a week the 10-year-old was admitted to Auckland's Starship Children's Hospital.
"It was really quick. It was really, really full on," Mrs Alison said.
"I'll probably never forget Queen's Birthday Weekend again."
Today the family is finally home after five weeks at Starship, where Logan underwent "intense chemotherapy".
When asked how he feels about all that's happened, the youngster shrugs his shoulders and keeps to himself.
He's had two bouts of chemotherapy and is scheduled for more, every 17 days over the next nine months.
"It's a long, intense process for him, so he won't be going to school," Mrs Alison said.
Instead teachers from a local "health school" will brings lessons to Logan at home.
Mrs Alison said her son's way of "just getting on with it" had been inspirational.
His hair had already fallen out and Logan got nausea from the chemotherapy.
"He's just been so brave, but that's kids for you isn't it?
"Kids are so incredible," Mrs Alison said.
Doctors have told the family there are about five cases of Ewing sarcoma diagnosed each year in Tauranga.
"We've sort of gone from shock to accepting it, but still questioning why us?" Mrs Alison said.
The mother of two has had to leave her job at Tahatai Coast School until further notice while Mr Alison, who was due to start a new job this month, has had to request time off to be with his son. Logan's sister Georgia, 12, has also been living between Tauranga and Auckland.
The family's plight has resulted in a rallying of support from the community, with fellow mum and friend Leaha Wykes organising two indoor soccer tournaments and a charity auction to help raise money for Logan's treatment and the family's travel costs.
"For these people you go the extra mile," Ms Wykes said.
A Facebook page titled Logan Alison Appeal has also been set up, attracting 91 "likes" by 4pm yesterday.
Ms Wykes said she started with a raffle.
However, she was soon overwhelmed by pledges of support.
"I actually haven't done much. I've just been the focus of everybody else's efforts, putting it all together.
"But I'm more than happy to do that.
"People are wanting to help. So many people are saying 'what can I do to help?'."
With help from management at Mount Action Centre, two fundraising five-a-side indoor football tournaments will be held - the first on Sunday, July 22 and the second on Sunday, August 5.
The charity auction will be held on Sunday September 9 in the Redwood Room at Bureta Park in Tauranga.
All proceeds raised from the events will go to the Alison family.
"What I keep in mind is that these are just good people and this is a crap thing to happen," Ms Wykes said.
