Two Papamoa teenagers were among the crowd of beachgoers who took the chance to cool off under the Cadbury Dairy Milk "Share the Joy" giant sprinkler set up on the Main Mount Beach yesterday.
Danielle Wyatt and Katie Smith, both 15, said playing tag under a huge sprinkler was a real
novelty, lots of fun and brought back memories.
"When we saw it we just had to have a go," said Ms Wyatt.
The chocolate giant has taken the everyday Kiwi garden sprinkler used in backyards in years gone by and super-sized it.
The custom-made sprinkler stood at nearly 3m tall outside the Mount Surf Club.
Cadbury held the promotional stunt in conjunction with More FM and said it was intended as a way for adults to act like kids again and "to find the youth within".
As people of all ages ran, jumped and played in the huge spray of sea water pumped from the harbour, their photos were taken to feature on Cadbury's "share the joy" website.
Mount Maunganui resident Kristine Abbott, 42, said she had a bad day on Saturday so thought playing under the giant sprinkler would lift her spirits.
The giant sprinkler has also appeared in Matarangi, Cooks Beach and Whangamata.
