Jazz and blues will ring out around Mid City Mall this Saturday to raise funds to support victims of the recent United States hurricanes.
The Tauranga Jazz Society and the Rotary Club of Tauranga want to raise funds for victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
"New Orleans is where blues and jazz
as we know it began," said Colin Lunt, president of the Tauranga Jazz Society.
"We are shattered by the destruction in New Orleans, although fortunately the French Quarter appears to have survived. However, we have many friends there who are still not contactable."
Following an appeal from Rotary International District 6200 in Louisiana, which is providing support to victims of the hurricanes, the Rotary Club of Tauranga has decided to link with the Jazz Society and will be collecting donations on Saturday.
Local jazz and blues bands will be playing from 10.30am until 2.30pm. The line-up will include Bureta Park All-Stars, Woody Woodhouse Connection, Self-Righteous Brothers and John Michaelz.
