A shed fire has destroyed goods meant for Hospice Whanganui, and left a Springvale family distraught.
Fire services were called to the scene at approximately 2.15pm yesterday after neighbours noticed smoke coming from a Durham Road property.
Station sergeant Aaron Summerhayes said they arrived at the scene to see the smoke emerging from a shed.
They broke a lock into the building and entered, using extinguishers to put out the fire.
He said an investigation would be carried out into the cause of the fire.
Viv Firmin's daughter Jessica lives at the house and Viv said the entire family had just left the property when the fire started.
"We got a call from our neighbour five minutes later telling us there's smoke coming out of your shed."
Although nobody was hurt the fire destroyed goods her daughter had arranged to donate to Hospice.
"It's just a real shame ... she'd just finished sorting everything out."
The fire also destroyed two drift bikes meant for her grandsons.
"Everything's gone," Ms Firmin said.
However, she was grateful the situation had not been worse.
"At least they're all safe," she said.
