Space Gallery and the Wanganui Women's Network are teaming up for a special event, the Winter Wonderfest.
"It's something quite different for us," said Sarah Williams, owner of Space Gallery.
"It began with this year's La Fiesta, when we started talking about doing collaborative work," said Carla Donson, from the Wanganui Women's Network.
"We started playing around with some ideas and Sarah had some space in her gallery schedule, so we thought we would give people the opportunity to participate in some fun activities, rather than hibernating at home."
Ms Donson said the event was an example of a community organisation working in partnership with a local entrepreneur.
Thirty per cent of sales from artwork at Space during Wonderfest will be donated to the Wanganui Women's Network, and an online auction of a Fleur Wickes' work will be held on TradeMe.
"She's donated a really beautiful piece, and a good chunk of that will go to the women's network. That's trying to target Space's wider audience, not just those in Wanganui," Ms Williams said.
The Wonderfest starts today with the opening of an exhibition featuring a raft of talented Wanganui female artists: Katherine Claypole, Sophie Klerk, Tia Ranginui, Vanessa Edwards, Catherine Macdonald, KnockKnock Design, Felicity Priest, Amy Blackburn, Sarah Williams, Jane Toy, Rachael Garland, Lynn Hurst, Emma Cunningham and Fleur Wickes.
The exhibition will run at Space Gallery until August 28.
What follows is a fortnight of events, including evening talks, movie nights, bicycle maintenance workshops and storytelling evenings.
On August 22 a night market will be held on Space's second floor, which will include 11 visiting artists and crafters, as well as Space's five resident artists. There will also be music and pizza on the night.
"The night market will be a special event, and we are looking forward to it," Ms Williams said.
