The City Mission Christmas lunch promises to be a cracker this year with ham, chicken with stuffing and coleslaw followed by Christmas pudding and ice cream with fruit salad on the menu.
City Mission staff, Linda Taumoeanga and Justin Mulligan, said they were delighted with the support given by the community and local business.
"There is a real 'pay-it-forward' attitude in the Wanganui community and we have received an amazing number of donations of gifts for children.
People are aware that there is a lot of need and they are helping to make sure nobody will miss out."
The War Memorial Hall will house around 300 dinner guests at midday tomorrow and Mr Mulligan said 100 people have volunteered to help with cooking and serving.
"The response has been amazing, we have actually had to turn some people down because we had too many offers.
"Local businesses have been fantastic too - Countdown and Pak'n'Save have donated a lot of food and the Warehouse have been extremely generous with gifts for children.
"We have been asking this year, which we don't normally do, and we have been given everything we asked for and then some."
Mrs Taumoeanga said there were regular donations each year from local business and Spiers Foods Limited in Marton always donate the coleslaw.
As well as the dinner, there will be live entertainment from two local singers and Santa will be arriving with gifts for the children.
The meal will be served at midday and Mrs Taumoeanga said tickets can be purchased at the War memorial Hall tomorrow at a cost of $3 each.
-Children under five dine for free and all are welcome.
