Police believe they are closing in on the people who gunned down Chris Bush at a Waikato pub in 1987.
Bush was shot dead at the Red Fox Tavern just before midnight on Saturday October 24 after two men burst into the bar while he was enjoying a drink with three staff members.
Almost 30 years on, police have revealed they are investigating new leads after information that was received recently.
Detective Inspector Gary Lendrum said police have been able to narrow their focus to a small group of people based on the new information.
"We are confident that we will eventually solve this case and that those responsible for the cruel murder of Chris Bush will be held responsible," he said.
The case featured on Police Ten 7 last month and Lendrum said the publicity had generated new information from the public.
He urged anyone else with information to come forward.
"There are people out there who know who is responsible for Chris' murder and we continue to encourage anyone with information to contact Counties Manukau police," he said.
"You may think that your information may not be significant to the case, but it is important for anyone with information to come forward as it could hold vital clues for the police investigation."
