Hamilton the last warm-up for Lions before Saturday's Eden Park moment of truth

Hamilton is the latest stop for the British and Irish Lions as the tourists take on the Chiefs at FMG Stadium tonight.

The game is the last warm-up for the Lions before they take on the All Blacks in the first test on Saturday.

Hamilton has been warming up to the team and their fans. Balloons and flags can be seen all over Victoria St, the main drag.

Earlier some of the players themselves were spotted cruising around town in Land Rovers, while supporters decked out in jerseys, hats and jackets were making the most of Hamilton's hospitality and stunning sunshine today.

Locals and visitors bantered with each other over the result of tonight's game and the Lions' prospects when they take on the All Blacks.

A couple from Wales, who were heading along to tonight's game and then on to the first test in Auckland, said they were quietly confident of success against the Chiefs.

They hoped that would then carry on to the test series, and from there it was "anyone's series".

Lots of locals were proudly wearing their Chiefs jerseys today, and many jerseys were also hanging in shop windows.

Folk hero and World Cup winner Stephen Donald captains the Chiefs.

The game is the sixth of the tour, and the last before the Lions take on the All Blacks. It kicked off at 7.35pm.

The game is being broadcast live on Sky, with Nigel Yalden calling the action on Radio Sport. You can also follow play on nzherald.co.nz's live blog.

The Lions are captained by Rory Best, capping a memorable few days for the hooker, who also was made an OBE on the weekend.

The Chiefs will be without their All Blacks for the game but have still named a formidable line-up, including Liam Messam on the bench. The loose forward is backing up after representing the Maori All Blacks against the Lions in Rotorua.

There was a stunning pre-match haka. The Chiefs rolled theirs out for the first time last year when they beat Wales, and they performed it again tonight.

Tonight Hamilton's main drag is super quiet, with most punters at FMG Stadium for the game.

Two Lions supporters who planned on watching the game at a bar said they wished they had bought tickets, but would be in the stands for the test match on Saturday.

The fans heading to the game at the stadium were full of vigour beforehand.

Keystone Bar is full of locals watching the game. One man, who asked not to be named, said he'd noticed there had been a "real buzz" around town during the last few days.

Down the road at Mulligans Guinness bar you can hear a pin drop. Locals are either at the game or wrapped up at home. One Lions fan said he's been impressed with his side's defensive efforts and but has serious concerns over their ability to score points.

Shenanigans Irish Bar is also quiet. Despite its Celtic theme staff have shown their true colours, having painted their faces in the Chiefs colours.

It may be quiet in the pubs now, but a serious influx is expected once the game is over.

"Mate, give it 30 minutes after the game and it'll be pumping," one bartender said.
