A man has today handed himself into police over the hit and run of a teenage boy crossing a road in Auckland at the weekend.

The boy was hospitalised after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Dominion Rd at Mt Eden about 5.50pm on Saturday.

Police said this afternoon that a man had handed himself into Avondale Police "after reading about the hit and run".

"He is assisting police with their enquiries [and] no one else is being sought in relation to the incident," police said in a statement.

The hit and run was still being investigated, police said.
