KEY POINTS:
A police officer needed medical treatment after being hit by a trailer while on traffic duty in Christchurch this afternoon.
However, Senior Sergeant Peter Stills said the driver towing the trailer might not have even be aware he hit someone.
Mr Stills said the officer was directing traffic on Papanui Road after a recycling truck spilled a bulk load of cardboard , when he was hit on the leg by a passing trailer about 1.30pm.
"The driver was travelling south on Papanui Road and may not be aware he had hit some one," Mr Stills said.
The officer received minor leg injuries as a result of the accident.
Mr Stills said the galvanised tandem trailer was loaded with grass clippings and was attached to a small white flatbed truck.
Police were not looking at pursuing any prosecution at this stage, but wanted to speak with the driver or anyone who witnessed the incident.
