Long-serving Wanganui halfback Denning Tyrell may miss July's Ranfurly Shield challenge against Southland.
The game clashes with a family reunion in Samoa and  Tyrell said yesterday: "Family comes first."
Tyrell, 34, who has played 70 games for Wanganui since 1997, has been out of action for the last two rounds of the
club competition due to work commitments and a back injury.
He hopes to return to Kaierau's starting side this weekend.
Tyrell said he had spoken to Wanganui coach Guy Lennox about his possible unavailability for the Invercargill trip.
The player has promised him a final decision in a month.
Asked if he was a 50-50 proposition for the rep season, Tyrell replied: "70-30 against would be more like it. The body's not getting any younger but we'll see how it goes. We'll get the club stuff out of the way first."
Of possible successors, he pushed a case for Kaierau team-mate Josh Navitio, whose play had developed strongly over the past couple of seasons.
