The St Johns Hill School Rippa Rugby team has a date in Wellington with other winners of the event in their unions.

St Johns won a titanic battle with St Anne's this week to represent Wanganui at the national finals, from September 16-18 in Wellington.

The two met in the fourth of the four-team play-off matches and drew nine-all. Being level on points, both schools then agreed to play a further match, in effect a final, which saw St Johns win 10-9.

Earlier St Johns A beat Keith Street 9-6 and St Marcellins 8-6, so there was precious little between the leading teams.

They had reached that play-off stage by winning their "cluster", where they beat Kai Iwi 1 and 2, and Westmere. Ohakune missed the play-offs because of snow preventing them travelling.

St Johns coach Glen Howes said Dillon Adrole, son of former Wanganui rep forward Nemia Adrole, was outstanding in scoring tries.
