Wild Tales feral fun from film society

Wild Tales has been described as "wickedly delightful."

The Whanganui Film Society is offering a "brilliant" film of shorts from Argentina on Monday night.

Wild Tales (Relatos salvajes) was described as the "surprise sensation from Argentina" at Cannes.

The film is a compendium of six lavishly produced shorts united by a theme of vengeance.

The shorts, all written and directed by Damián Szifron, are Pasternak, Las Ratas (The Rats), El más fuerte (The Strongest), Bombita (Little Bomb), La Propuesta (The Proposal) and Hasta que la muerte nos separe (Till Death Do Us Part).

The shorts include two airplane passengers who find they have an acquaintance in common, a loan shark who meets an unhappy client in a restaurant, a teenager who commits a hit and run and a bride who discovers at her wedding her groom is a cheat.

The film was called "wickedly delightful... for pure viewing pleasure, the one wild card in the Cannes competition this year is unlikely to be beaten." by critic Jay Weissberg in 2014.

The film is in Spanish with English subtitles.

In 2017, the Whanganui Film Society is introducing half-year membership options for both halves of the season ($45 or $40 discounted), in addition to three-film samplers ($30) and full year memberships ($90 or $80 discounted).

All membership details can be found online or in the brochures, which will be out around town this week. A full membership gives access to all 31 films in the season.
