Whanganui woman Eve Guilbert has nothing but praise for Powerco after electricity to her property was out for nine days.
Miss Guilbert said about 1am on Saturday, July 29, she heard a huge bang "like a bomb going off" outside her home in Akatea Street. A vehicle had hit a power pole, snapping it off at the bottom. The force of the crash snapped the power cable to her house and pulled the power connection from under the eaves, leaving her without power.
"I had a battery-powered radio, torches and a woodburner in the lounge so I could cook meals but Powerco was really great at helping with my situation," Miss Guilbert said.
"They provided a generator for me and even took away the rubbish off my front lawn. I also want to thank my electrician and the guys who were there straight after the accident to move the power pole off the road in the middle of the night. I wouldn't like to be doing that job in such cold conditions. They all did such a great job and deserve to be thanked."
Police confirmed that no-one was injured in the crash but the vehicle was extensively damaged. The 33-year-old male driver is due to appear in the Whanganui District Court on August 22 on charges of driving with excess breath alcohol, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.
