Waverley's Wayne Rowe and his dog Toru had a big day out at the Ohingaiti Sports Day last week.

They won the open, intermediate and maiden sections at the sheepdog trials.

Wayne Falkner and his team worked the well grown Suffolk-cross male lambs around the course before the trial started.

They proved good to drive, but many a winning run was blown at the yard and the lambs were very hard to get into the pen - although Rowe and Toru had their measure.

Brenda O'Leary from the Wanganui centre judged the event.

Unfortunately, the very unseasonable weather put a dampener on the Ohingaiti event with gate takings and entries down on 2016.

Intermediate: W Rowe and Toru, 95.25, 1; B Christie and Buck, 93.5, 2; T Newton and Brick, 93, 3.

Open/maiden: W Rowe and Toru, 95.25.

At the Levin A and P Show last weekend, the showring event was well attended with 51 dogs competing.

Ray Morris from Taihape had his first outing as a judge.

The sheep were provided by Lakeview Farm and prepared by Wendy and Lindsay Schmidt.
The male lambs were a test at the obstacles but very willing to go in the pen.

Results:
W Schmidt and Polly, 99, 1; P Green and Di, 98.75, 2; R Mather and Sheen, 98.5, 3; W Schmidt and Dream, 98.25, 4; R Mather and Quade, 98; 6, 5; E Forsyth and Pat, 97.5., 6.
Whanganui's Eric Forsyth with Pat also won the open/maiden.

Meanwhile, the Wanganui Hill Trials are on Friday and Saturday, February 3 and 4, with the Humes Centre championships being held at the Feilding SDT club grounds.

The run-offs of top Wanganui Centre dogs will be on Sunday, February 5.
