PROJECT Splash organisers are thrilled with the public response to their first major fundraising drive.
Project Splash is the fundraising committee tasked with raising funds for the Splash Centre extension, and the first money-raising initiative has been a major success.
Spokesman John Unsworth said 12,000 tickets for a Rav 4 donated by Harvey Round Motors have all been sold.
"To sell that many tickets in just over six weeks was a brilliant effort by all those involved and reflects the support for the redevelopment that exists in the community," Mr Unsworth said.
The 12,000 tickets went on sale on October 29 and were all sold by the closing date of December 15.
Mr Unsworth said the public reaction was extremely supportive with examples of people buying books of six tickets on more than one occasion and in numbers of up to 10 books at a time.
"The thing we found was that people who ordinarily wouldn't buy raffle tickets said it was a great cause and bought tickets, which was heartening.
"There certainly was a lot of interest in it and lots of discussions of the plans and what was going to be involved," he said.
Project Splash had always aimed to sell all the tickets, but the reality was far better than they'd hoped for.
"We did better than expected? it was a lot to achieve in a tight time-frame."
The raffle should result in the fundraising increasing by $21,650.
"A special thanks to Antony Rountree at Harvey Round Motors, the Radio Network for the advertising, the very hospitable hosts who provided us with venues at which to sell the tickets (particularly Trafalgar Square, Mega Mitre 10," he said.
Organisers also want to thank Rotary North who wanted to give proceeds of the cancelled Carols by Candlelight at Virginia Lake.
"We're grateful for their willingness to support our cause that was unfortunately hampered by the weather," Unsworth said.
More fundraising initiatives will be revealed in the New Year.
The Rav 4 winner will be revealed tomorrow with the winner being contacted immediately and results published in the Wanganui Chronicle on December 24.
