On ya bike, or - to be precise - on ya scooter for the Central Plateau Scooter Challenge.
Firing up the 50 is all part of a unique Wanganui motoring challenge being organised to raise funds for the Child Cancer Foundation next year.
Terena Currey is organising the Central Plateau Scooter Challenge,
a one-day ride from the city to Taupo on March 26.
Ms Currey took part in similar events in the South Island, including the 255km ride from Christchurch to Hokitika last year which raised $128,000 for the foundation.
"This will now become a biannual event, with the ride being held in the North Island next year and the South Island the following year," she said.
"While we're aiming to get 50cc scooters involved, size doesn't matter really. The only stipulation is that the bigger scooters have to keep pace with the small ones."
Ms Currey, who rides a Suzuki SJ50 herself, said riders would be required to organise their own sponsorship for the event.
"That can either be a dollar for every kilometre of the ride or someone making a single donation.
"The more riders we get taking part the better, and I've already got one 74-year-old signed on," she said.
Local businesses have started getting on board, providing prizes for the competitors.
