Tawhero School parents can keep tabs on their children's academic progress by logging on to the school's e-Parent portal.
It is the only school in Wanganui of 60 throughout the country trialling the one-year online programme.
National standards reports, absences, school reports and learning steps are among the information available to parents. Parents will also be able to message teachers with any questions or concerns.
Edward Minnell, ICT facilitator for Tawhero and Keith St schools who built the e-tap network, said parents had a username and password and 24-hour access.
He said one parent had logged on at 1.15am that morning.
Tawhero principal Chris Dibben said the school computer suite was open for parents from 7.30am-4pm for those who didn't have computers at home.
Parents will also be given two sessions to help them come to grips with the programme.
Mr Dibben said the e-Parent portal was a subsidiary to the Computers in Homes package.
"The parents pay $50 for a 10-week programme and receive a brand-new computer and internet access for a year which was maintained over that time."
Parents could drip-feed the $50 payment.
Mr Minnell said computers in schools advanced students greatly.
"Using computers does not mean pen and paper are obsolete, they are just another tool."
