Fear Factor champion and former underwear model Mark Hewlett is coming to Wanganui next weekend in support of CanTeen.
He'll be taking part in the Wanganui District Masonic Lodges family fun day, on Saturday, September 25.
Proceeds from the non-competitive event go to CanTeen, which supports young people living with cancer.
Individuals and
teams can either take part in one event ? run/walk, mountain biking and swimming ? or all three. Mr Hewlett, 29, now lives in Auckland and works for ZM as their ambassador.
ZM and its sister radio station, Classic Hits River City FM, are supporting the fun day.
In 2003 Mr Hewlett was season three Fear Factor grand champion, gaining an audition after the top US Tv show's producers saw him on a RIPS underwear poster.
He auditioned with 6000 other hopefuls in Los Angeles, part of the 60,000 people seen across the country.
Asked why he should be chosen for the show, Mr Hewlett replied "having a white African on their show would do wonders for their ratings".
He said not a day went by without someone asking about or mentioning Fear Factor.
"Personally I feel that I have grown through experiencing and fighting the mental battle of failure throughout the show?"
Mr Hewlett was born in Zimbabwe, where he was a swimming and judo champion.
In 1996 he was spotted on a Los Angeles beach and thrown into the world of modelling.
He has also appeared in music videos for the likes of Toni Braxton and Jimmy Sommerville, formerly of Bronski Beat.
In 2002 Mr Hewlett was diagnosed with type one diabetes and has done motivational speeches to United States children with diabetes, as well as appearing in diabetes magazines.
Mr Hewlett will present prizes at next weekend's fun day and is expected to take part in the run.
He will also be guest of honour at a Fear Factor party at the Stellar bar at 10pm on Friday, September 24.
While not wanting to give too much away, Radionetwork Wanganui manager Martin Smith said there would be fear factor challenges on the night.
