Whanganui Mayor Annette Main is a surprise candidate for the Whanganui District Health Board in the upcoming local government elections.
Ms Main announced earlier this year she would not be seeking re-election as mayor.
Fifteen candidates are contesting seven places on the board. The full list of candidates is:
