A proposed $2 million revitalisation of Marton’s town centre is now open for public consultation.
The Rangitīkei District Council plan focuses on Marton’s main street, Broadway, with an emphasis on green spaces, improved lighting, parking, signage and pedestrian access.
It aims to make existing spaces suitable for community events, activities and create a “vibrant, attractive town centre”.
The council said previous consultations, including its long-term plan, indicated a revitalised streetscape was desired by the community.
“We’ve received lots of feedback during the planning phase that has helped shaped the plan and we’d like for people to see the vision that they helped to create,” group manager for strategy, community and development, Katrina Gray, said.
“This consultation isn’t about choosing one project over the other and does not take away time and effort spent on projects.
“The focus is on planning for the future of the Marton town centre and what the community wants to see improved in the streetscape over the long term.”
Consultation opened on November 7, with the public invited to provide feedback before December 5.
The council have encouraged people who wish to discuss the plan to visit the Marton Community Hub on November 18 between 10am and 2pm.
The plan is set to be finalised on February 27, when the council will consider the feedback provided by the public.
