Green Party MP Gareth Hughes is visiting town this Saturday, May 27.
"I'm excited to be visiting Whanganui and meeting people interested in politics, the Green Party and hearing their suggestions about what is important this election," Gareth says.
The Greens' candidate for Whanganui, Nicola Patrick, will also be speaking about her political passions.
"It's great to have Gareth in town to share his policy priorities and to hear about the reality of driving change from inside Parliament," she says.
The event was labelled a "green slam" because it involved people speaking from the heart about what was important to them, Nicola adds.
Gareth Hughes would be covering the Green Party's "cheaper, cleaner, smarter" energy policy including 100 per cent renewables and winter energy payments. Modelling had been undertaken to show the likely financial benefit for Whanganui households.
The event is at Delicious Café from 6pm on Saturday. There would then be an open mic session.
Nicola says one of the drivers for the visit was to help Whanganui people have a chance to directly influence an MP by sharing what was important to them.
"We hope to get the message out that the Greens offer a different way of doing politics and we are open to hearing directly from people with good ideas to help make the world a better place, starting locally," she says.
