As Wanganui basked in the early spring sun, thousands turned out to the Wanganui Chronicle Home & Lifestyle show held over the weekend.

About 80 exhibitors and thousands of people packed into Jubilee Stadium to check out a range of products, demonstrations and find out about local organisations.

Community Education was one exhibitor and administrator Sue Beissel said they had managed to sign up new students.

"I think it's been quite successful," she said.

Mike Nixon was manning the Hometech Solatube stand and said this year's event had topped his first one last year.

He said he had sold as much on the Saturday as the entire weekend last year. "I think it's a better time of the year. Coming into spring it sort of works better."

A bamboo pillow product proved popular and was the talk of the punters.

Wanganui's Amie Simpson hadn't had anything in mind but walked away with a few purchases.

"We love it - it's the second year we've been."

Michelle Coley came with a purchase in mind, chasing down some spices, but found the whole event worthwhile.

Wanganui Chronicle general manager Andy Jarden said an estimated 5000 people came through on Saturday with the same number expected on Sunday.

Mr Jarden said it was a huge event for the city and not many others could pull such a crowd.
