A wooden carving has been delivered to the Chronicle office in the hope that it can be returned to its rightful owner.
The donor said it was "liberated from a place where it should not have been" and delivered to him to be blessed and returned to where it belongs.
The carving is around 60cm tall and the donor said the markings are distinctive and probably represent an historical personality.
"It is not very old, but I would say someone has carved this to represent their ancestor and it has been very badly disrespected," he said.
Anyone who recognises the carving can contact the Chronicle to be put in touch with the custodian, who will return it to a legitimate claimant.
