A Wanganui company which has gained international renown is for sale - but its owners are dead keen for the buyer to be a local.
Delphinium growers Terry and Janice Dowdeswell have exported flowers to markets in North America, Britain, Europe and, more recently, Russia from their small Brunswick Rd property.
They have been carving out a niche in the industry for more than 20 years but now the business is growing faster than they can manage and they have decided to sell.
They know that there will be international interest but their hope is that the future owner comes from Wanganui.
More recently ,Mr Dowdeswell has bred a dwarf delphinium that can be grown in pots. Usually the plants grow to the size of the average human, so coming up with a much smaller variety is a major breakthrough. Mr Dowdeswell said: "Developing the dwarf varieties has the potential to open up a market which could be enormous."
