The eternal Christmas message of people caring for one another, families embracing, and peace to all mankind was central to Call the Midwife Christmas Special, TV One, 8pm on Wednesday.
It was1962 and just hours before the big freeze polar blast knocked Britain senseless with huge ice and snow that closed roads, railroads and airports.
In London, it even stopped milk deliveries much to chagrin of hundreds of East-end families and the midwives and nuns of Nonnatus House in the suburb of Poplar.
It was sheer torture not having that slosh of milk in your morning cuppa, how was a body to cope they all cried.
But with their usual pluck and bravado, the women of Nonnatus House (nuns and midwives) rolled up their sleeves and set to with goodwill and cheer against the frozen odds.
