It opened to the public in September 2016 but there was a delay with getting the hot shop up and running as it was brought up to health and safety standards.
That eventually opened in February.
"But that was a great thing," Mr Redding says. "Now we're the most compliant hot shop in the country, probably one of the most compliant in the world.
"We've had great steady usage out of not only the local artists but national artists coming ing. It's just going from strength to strength."
Mr Redding said New Zealand Glassworks was starting to gain a reputation around the world and it had already secured the Australasian Glass Conference in 2019.
"We are trying to build those relationships stronger especially with our Australian counterparts," Mr Redding said.
For its second year he the focus would be on expanding the hot shop use introducing flame working, bead making and coldwork workshops.
"We will start expanding more into exhibitions."
New Zealand Society of Art Glass will have its member's exhibition at NZG during December and January.
To mark the one year anniversary NZG is offering that chance for people to design their own glass work on paper with the winning drawings being turned into a glass work by professional glass artists.
"We get a lot of people coming in to see how glass is made, but to get their winning piece made will be something very special," says NZG Manager Scott Redding.
There are two categories for the competition; 12 years and under 13 years and over.
To enter the competition, bring your glass design drawing down to New Zealand Glassworks on October 14.
The 12 and under category will be chosen and made between 10am and 12pm and the 13 and over category will be chosen and made between 1pm and 3pm.
