When your district has more than its fair share of emergencies there is no shortage of lessons learned.
No district has had more declared civil defence emergencies in the past 30 years than Whanganui.
The Whanganui District Council's ability to respond was discussed at the council's audit and risk committee last Monday at the request of committee chairwoman Sue Westwood.
"I just wanted to give councillors a degree of confidence that things were being put in place," she said.
Council emergency manager Tim Crowe said flood and storm events and earthquakes were the most common emergency dealt with in Whanganui.
