Police seek sightings of fleeing driver and passenger on Desert Road

Central Police attempted to stop a stolen car on State Highway One, in the Tongariro area on Saturday afternoon.

The driver failed to stop and immediately fled from Police on the Desert Rd.

The car was eventually dumped on Tree Trunk Gorge Rd before the driver and passenger, possibly a man and woman, ran through nearby bush.

Police believe both are still in the area.

Any sightings of hitchhikers or pedestrians on the Desert Rd on Saturday, between Rangipo and Waiouru, should be reported to 111 immediately.
