They come from all walks of life but the artists taking part in the latest exhibition at the Wanganui Community Arts Centre have one thing in common - they're all students of art tutors Frances Sim-Higgins and Elizabeth van Zanten.
The students include Lachie Smith, a busy GP and father of four young children, who finds art a contrast to the business of dealing with people's illnesses.
"A doctor's work is never done, but with art you finish a piece. It's very satisfying to see your finished artwork," he said.
There's Gail Denman who has been painting for 10 years but, even after several exhibitions finds it nerve-wracking to exhibit her delicate watercolour paintings.
"I love painting, but it's scary, exposing yourself like that," Mrs Denman said.
