Youngsters for ND tourney

Two groups of Bay of Plenty age group cricket players have been selected to play at the Northern District junior secondary school tournament at Manurewa.

The five-day tournament starts on Monday for BOP junior secondary teams who are the second tier of BOP age group representatives, beginning with BOP Coastland and primary teams, through to junior secondary ranks, culminating in the two senior secondary regional teams.

Bay of Plenty has been allowed two teams at most ND age group tournaments for years.

Lakeland representatives are selected from Taupo, Rotorua and Eastern Bay while Coastland sides are drawn from the Western Bay of Plenty.

BOP Lakeland junior secondary coach Mitch Farnell will make his BOP coaching debut and is highly experienced.

Farnell coached the Cook Islands team that played in the ICC Asia/Pacific World Cup qualifying tournament.

BOP Coastland junior secondary mentor Peter Drysdale is combining player/coach duties for the BOP 1st XI and BOP age group sides for the second successive year.
